Feet

Apart from genetic causes and congenital defects, the most common cause of foot diseases is prolonged overloading that exceeds its tolerance. Failure to correct even minor foot deformities can lead to their worsening and a condition that is difficult to treat.

Statistics show that nearly half of the Polish population suffers from foot deformities. This problem is more common in women. Frequently encountered foot deformities include: longitudinal flatfoot, transverse flatfoot, overpronation, cavus foot, hallux valgus, hammer toes, and the so-called "heel spur."

The most common are longitudinal flatfoot, where the medial part of the foot touches the ground as a result of flattening, and transverse flatfoot, affecting the forefoot. Symptoms of these deformities include calluses, foot pain, and pain around the ankles and calves.

Regular foot examinations are especially important for obese patients, those who stand for long periods, wear uncomfortable protective footwear, or have diabetes.

Foot deformities and abnormal gait often also affect children. Symptoms that should alert parents include abnormal walking, quick fatigue during play, and reluctance to go for longer walks. Often, a child's foot appears normal when not bearing weight, but observing it under load and examining the gait can reveal pathology. Therefore, in such cases, a specialist orthopedic examination is essential to determine the appropriate treatment approach.

In these cases, orthopedic insoles, properly fitted footwear, and corrective exercises can help. They can prevent the further development of foot deformities and even achieve correction.

Stores offer a wide range of orthopedic insoles. Proper selection of insoles is a fundamental element for effective use. An ill-fitting insole will not only be ineffective but may also exacerbate symptoms. To select the right insoles, knowledge of foot anatomy and biomechanics is necessary. Orthopedic doctors are trained in this area. Only an insole fitted by an orthopedist offers the best chance for proper use and alleviation of discomfort.
